Malignant mesothelioma is actually an aggressive cancer, with symptoms and warning signs similar
to those of lung and gastrointestinal cancers. The disease originates within the lining of the lungs,
heart, or abdomen. The only known cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos.
Due to relatively common symptoms, misdiagnosis happens frequently with this disease.
Visiting an experienced thoracic oncologist is key to early detection. Treatment methods include chemotherapy
and surgical removal of the disease, though prognosis is generally poor, at diagnosis.
